If you discover smoke or fire, activate the nearest fire alarm pull station and call 911.
Evacuate immediately via the nearest marked exit. As a historic building, Harbour House has no elevator — all evacuation routes are via the stairs.
Feel doors before opening; if a door is hot, use an alternate exit.
Close doors behind you as you leave to slow the spread of smoke.
Stay low if there's smoke, and proceed to the designated assembly point: by the Harbour House Hotel sign in front of the hotel
Do not re-enter the building until hotel staff or fire officials confirm it's safe.

Drop, Cover, and Hold On — get under sturdy furniture, away from windows and mirrors.
Stay where you are until the shaking stops, then check for injuries and hazards before moving.
Because the hotel sits on the waterfront, strong or prolonged shaking (20 seconds or more) is itself a natural tsunami warning — see below.

Salt Spring Island is in a tsunami hazard zone.
If you feel a strong or prolonged earthquake, hear a tsunami siren, or receive an official alert, move immediately to higher ground away from the shoreline — do not wait for confirmation.

Do not return to low-lying or waterfront areas until local authorities confirm it's safe.

Windstorms are the most common severe weather on the Gulf Islands and can cause power outages or downed trees — contact the front desk if conditions affect your stay.
